Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue Cannabis: Why West Islanders Drive North to Bear’s Den Instead of Into the City

If you are looking for a Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue dispensary or a weed store near Ste-Anne, Bear’s Den Cannabis is the Indigenous-women-owned shop at 1510B Rang Ste-Philomène in Kanesatake, near Oka, on the far side of Lac des Deux Montagnes. We are not in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue and we do not deliver there. We are one store, open since 2018, with fair everyday pricing and a team that takes the time to help. Note that Quebec’s legal age is 21 and Bear’s Den operates outside the SQDC government system under asserted Indigenous sovereignty on Sovereign Kanesatake Mohawk Territory, so read the legal section before you go.

Getting here from Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue

There is no bridge across the lake, so you have two options: the road loop north of Montreal, or the Oka-Hudson ferry when it is running.

By road, step by step

1. From Sainte-Anne, take Autoroute 40 east toward Montreal.
2. Take Autoroute 13 north toward Laval and Boisbriand.
3. Take Autoroute 640 west toward Saint-Eustache and Deux-Montagnes.
4. Where Autoroute 640 ends, just past Pointe-Calumet, turn onto Route 344 west and follow it into Oka village.
5. West of Oka, Route 344 becomes Rang Ste-Philomène. Our shop is at number 1510B.

Plan on roughly an hour to an hour and a quarter, longer at rush hour. Parking is free, right at our door. Get directions from Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue to Bear’s Den.

By the Oka-Hudson ferry

When it is running, the ferry is the shortcut. Take Autoroute 40 west across the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge, follow Route 342 into Hudson, cross the lake on the car ferry, and drive a few minutes west on Route 344 from the Oka landing. Door to door, plan on roughly 45 minutes to an hour. This season the ferry started late, in early August, on a reduced schedule, and it closes for the winter, so check the operator’s current schedule first. Our Hudson page has more on that crossing.

What Ste-Anne shoppers come in for

Flower and pre-rolls

Our cannabis flower covers indica, sativa and hybrid strains, along with pre-rolls and infused pre-rolls. Our team will walk you through what is on the shelf that day.

Edibles

Our cannabis edibles include gummies, chocolate, cookies and hot chocolate mixes. Edibles take longer to kick in than smoking, so start with a small serving and wait before taking more. For any health question, please speak with a licensed practitioner.

Hash, vapes and the full menu

We also carry hash, THC vape pens and disposables, concentrates and CBD. Browse the full Bear’s Den menu before you leave home.

SQDC in the West Island, and why we think the drive is worth it

The SQDC, Quebec’s government cannabis retailer, is also an option; its store finder lists the branches nearest Sainte-Anne.

What we offer is different: an Indigenous-women-owned shop, fair everyday pricing, a menu that covers flower, edibles, hash and vapes in one stop, and staff who ask what you are looking for instead of upselling. You can read more about who we are before you come.

The legal picture, told straight

In Quebec, the only government-authorized retailer of cannabis is the Société québécoise du cannabis, the SQDC. Under the federal Cannabis Act and Quebec’s Cannabis Regulation Act, the provincial legal age to buy or possess cannabis is 21, the public possession limit is 30 grams of dried cannabis or its equivalent, and home cultivation is not permitted in the province. Quebec also has zero tolerance for driving with any detectable cannabis in your saliva.

Bear’s Den operates outside that provincial government system, under asserted Indigenous-sovereignty principles on Sovereign Kanesatake Mohawk Territory. That is our own position, not a claim that we are part of the SQDC framework or that we speak for federal or provincial authorities. You must be 21 or older to shop with us, which is worth underlining for a village with a large student population near Macdonald Campus. Please never drive high, whichever way you head home.
