Montreal Cannabis: Why City Shoppers Make the 45-Minute Drive to Bear’s Den in Kanesatake

If you are looking for an Indigenous dispensary near Montreal, Bear’s Den Cannabis is an Indigenous-women-owned shop at 1510B Rang Ste-Philomène in Kanesatake, near Oka, about an hour from downtown. We are not a Montreal dispensary in the sense of having a store in the city; we are one shop, on Kanesatake Mohawk Territory, serving Montreal shoppers who make the drive since 2018.

We do not deliver into Montreal, and we do not sell online or ship. You can browse the menu, call ahead, and pick up at our counter.

An Indigenous-owned cannabis store, run by our community

People who search for a native or First Nations-owned dispensary near Montreal usually want to know who they are buying from. We are a shop rooted in Kanesatake, owned by Indigenous women, and every visit is handled by our own team. You can read more about Bear’s Den and our story.

In practice that means fair everyday pricing, no upselling, and staff who will ask what you are looking for before suggesting anything.

What Montreal shoppers come in for

Edibles

If edibles are what you are after, our cannabis edibles include gummies, chocolate, cookies, hot chocolate and drink mixes. Health Canada notes edibles can take 30 minutes to 2 hours to begin working, so start low, go slow, and wait before taking more. For health questions, please talk with a licensed practitioner.

Vape pens and disposables

For something discreet, our THC vape pens include Drizzle Switch, Heisenberg Extractions and Pegasus Live, plus ready-to-use disposables.

Hash and flower

Our hash selection covers blonde and red Lebanese, temple ball and hunter hash, and we carry indica, sativa and hybrid flower, pre-rolls and concentrates. See everything on the full cannabis menu.

Getting here from Montreal

Downtown and the Plateau: roughly 60 to 65 km, usually about an hour, a little less outside rush hour. Take Autoroute 15 north to Autoroute 640 west, follow it past Saint-Eustache and Deux-Montagnes to its end, then take Route 344 west through Oka. Just past the village, Route 344 becomes Rang Ste-Philomène.

West Island: Autoroute 40 to Autoroute 13 north into Laval, then Autoroute 640 west and Route 344. Often the quickest trip from the island, at just under an hour.

Laval and the North Shore: join Autoroute 640 west directly. Our Laval page has more on that route.

Rush hour on the bridges can add a lot of time, so plan around it. You can get directions to 1510B Rang Ste-Philomène from anywhere in the city. Parking is easy once you arrive.

Hours, phone orders and pickup

Buying cannabis in Montreal versus visiting us

If you want to buy cannabis in Montreal itself, the SQDC is Quebec’s government retailer and has stores across the city. That is the provincially authorized channel.

Bear’s Den is a different choice: an independent, Indigenous-women-owned counter outside the city, with a team that takes its time. You can also turn the trip into a day at Oka National Park.

The legal picture, told straight

Under Quebec’s cannabis rules, the SQDC is the only government-authorized retailer, the minimum age is 21, public possession is capped at 30 grams of dried cannabis or its equivalent, and home cultivation is prohibited.

Bear’s Den operates outside that provincial system, under asserted Indigenous-sovereignty principles on Sovereign Kanesatake Mohawk Territory. That is our own position. We are not the SQDC, and we do not speak for federal or provincial authorities. Please never drive high.
